Tea Tree Oil is a pretty effective deodorant.
Filed under: health and beauty, natural products, physical well-being, skin care
I've been swiping a little tea tree oil under my arms for the past few days with a cotton swab instead of using deodorant, and I think I'm going to make a habit of it. The strong licorice-reminiscent scent fades within ten minutes, and it keeps me smelling fresh until nightfall. I was a pretty huge fan of the homemade deodorant that I'd been using, but I feel better about putting tea tree oil on my skin than baking soda, and tea tree oil leaves no white residue.
And another thing:
Have I mentioned how pumped I am...
Glass bottles make me smile.

I'm just gonna go ahead and warn everyone: this post is about to be a link fest. The pretty glass bottle that my Burt's Bees Vitamin E Body & Bath Oil came in has inspired me to buy more glass bottles for storing homemade health and beauty products. My friend Chuck told me about two really neat websites where I can find glass bottles for next to nothing (SKS Bottle & Packaging, Inc. & Sunburst Bottle Company), and I'm pretty pumped about it. The first two projects that I plan to fill some bottles...
Summertime Craftiness

It's summertime and I'm feeling crafty. I finally finished embroidering a seahorse that I started a few months ago. One thing that I love about stitching is that it's like coloring for adults. Now that I'm done, I have no idea what I'll do with it. I'll probably end up framing it; I can't think of anything cooler.
I also made some more headbands. It took all of ten minutes.I got bored and made a headband.
I've been really wanting a fancy headband in my life, but I'm a little broke right now. Today I cut a flower out of an old dog shirt and sewed it onto an old headband with a button and some thread. It was easy; it only took about ten minutes. I'd really like to make more, but I need to get my hands on some pretty fabric...
A New Year’s Resolution of Sorts

I remember very clearly the day that I became curious about the ingredients in the health and beauty products I use. It happened after reading an internet news article about a girl dying as a result of using too much perfume. As to whether or not this article was bullshit, I really have no clue. I read some really disturbing things about parabens, preservatives used in many cosmetics and toiletries, and sodium lauryl or laureth sulfates, which are cleaning agents. I felt overwhelmed, so I decided that I would try to avoid those two ingredients at least. I began buying...
Tampons are for suckaz.
DISCLAIMER: This entry discusses in detail the following- pads, tampons, my vagina, periods, period blood If any of these topics make you uncomfortable, then please read no further. Also, if you're a girl, why are you uncomfortable with periods? They're not going anywhere until you're about fifty. Deal with it. I once was a huge fan of tampons. Sanitary Napkins (or pads, if you're not big into fancy talk) were basically diapers for adults in my eyes; I wanted no part of that. Still, the idea of stuffing bleached cotton in my vagina did not sit well. I eventually decided to make...
