After seeing a recipe for homemade makeup remover on the Green Beauty Guide Blog, I decided to make my own version with the ingredients we had on hand. I typically use coconut oil to remove my eye makeup, but I’m almost out of my current stash…so trying something new seemed appropriate.

This makeup remover is super simple, and it gets the job done!  It doesn’t leave quite as much of an oily residue as coconut oil does, which is nice.

To make this product, I used:

• 1 oz of green tea
• 1 oz of grapeseed oil (you could probably use olive oil if you don’t have grapeseed!)
• 1/2 oz of vegetable glycerin

I simply funneled the above ingredients into an empty bottle I had lying around. The bottle has a pump, which is especially convenient for applying only a small amount of the product onto a cloth or cotton ball.

The oil/glycerin and the tea separate, so be sure to shake this product before using it (if you decide to make your own batch)!  I’m keeping my remover in the fridge, as the Green Beauty Guide Blog suggests. : )

I’ve had my bottle of Yes To Carrots Can you C Me Eye and Face Makeup Remover for at least two years. I’ve had it for so long, in fact, that the company has stopped selling this product and replaced it with a Makeup Removing Cleanser. Since it is still being sold online elsewhere, I figured a review wouldn’t be entirely pointless.

Ingredients (provided on product packaging)- “Spring Water and Carrot Juice and Rosemary Extract, Algae Extracts (Dunaliella, Spirulina, Rhodella), Cucumber Extract, Propylene Glycol and Sesame Oil, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Camomile Oil, Calendula Oil, Avocado Oil, Almond Oil, Silt (Dead Sea Mud), Magnesium Chloride, Organic Extracts of: Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, Melon, Orange & Honey, Silt (Dead Sea Mud), Sesame Oil and Cetyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Triethanolamine, Fragrance, Rosemary Extract, Carbomer, Niacin, Ginkgo Biloba Extract, Aloe Vera Gel, Propolis Extract, Vitamin E, Imidazolidinyl Urea.”

I couldn’t locate this product in the Cosmetics Database, so I’ve linked to each ingredient individually above. The ingredients with hazard scores higher than 3 are as follows: Triethanolamine (5), .Fragrance (8), and Imidazolidinyl Urea (5).   Additionally, there is no data for Dunaliella Extract, and Rhodella Extract couldn’t even be located in the database. Price- around $8.00 for an 8.45 fl. oz. bottle.

Performance- I’ve  had this product for so long for several reasons, but mostly because it’s not my preferred makeup remover. Since I usually only wear eye makeup and a bit of concealer under my eyes, I try to stick with removers that will take off my makeup with minimal scrubbing/rubbing.  Unfortunately, this product just doesn’t remove my eye makeup easily enough. Even when I use a ridiculous amount of it, it still doesn’t hold a candle to coconut oil. It’s a shame, too, because it does leave my skin feeling super soft.

Scent-It smells like all Yes To Carrots products, which is a powdery and pleasant (albeit generic) lotion scent.

Rating- 5/10. I deducted 2 points for the questionable ingredients and another 3 for the less than ideal performance.

I plan to stick with this exact kind of coconut oil. It smells great, and it makes my under eye area soft, soft, soft.

Until a few days ago, I was taking off my eye makeup (which is usually the only makeup I wear) with olive oil.  While on our family beach vacation, Danielle suggested that I use coconut oil.  She had done the same and had an entirely positive experience.  She is always steering me in the right direction.  My eye makeup literally melted away. I will never go back to olive oil (unless I run out of coconut oil and am in a pinch).

I have a feeling that this stuff smells lovely.

1) Demeter Naturals Mimosa Perfume- Demeter Naturals fragrances are made from pure essential oils and have no Phthalates (put simply, Phthalates are chemicals that are intended to make scent last longer that are easily absorbed by our skin).

LunaPanties are made especially for period times!

2) LunaPanties-Basically, they have organic cotton pads sewn into them.  The extra liner shown in the picture is for days with heavier flows.  I could easily make something like this at home, but I love that they’re made with organic cotton (One day, when I’m wealthy, all of my clothes will be made from organic cotton).  Of all of the nifty things on this list, these panties are the item that I’ll most likely buy.  You should really check out the entire site. 3. Sun Applique Dress- I need more casual dresses in my closet. An impressive amount of my dresses can only be worn to weddings.

How fancy would using a brand called Glam Nation make you feel?!

4. Glam Nation Organic and Wild-Crafted Eye and Makeup Remover Lotion- I typically use olive oil to remove my eye makeup, and it works just fine…but I read some great reviews on this product.  Also, it has a zero hazard score on the Cosmetic Safety Database, and I like that.

I'm a sucker for pretty packaging.

5) Nothing Nasty Rose and Vanilla Lipbalm- Yeah, I know I’d be ordering it from the UK and shipping would be ridiculous…but this could be my new Minted Rose Lip Balm with better ingredients (another rating of zero, actually)!

I like this orangey shade of red A LOT.

6. Toms Red Newport Cordones- Everyone knows that Toms does good things for the world, and these shoes would do good things for my feet.

Painting my nails is a bad habit that I refuse to quit.

7. Zoya Matte Velvet Nail Polish in Veruschka-  This has to be better for me than Sally Hansen, right?

It's made for babies and kids, but adults get nappy hair too.

8. Babo Botanicals Berry Primrose Instantly Smooth Detangler-  Surprise surprise, it’s another zero.

Kiwi, pineapple, and passion fruit together at last.

9. Gold Machine Naked Juice- Putting juice on this list may seem silly since it is so cheap and easily attainable, but I can’t find this at any of the stores around these parts. If any of you guys have tried it, then let me know how awesome it was.

I have an obsession with animal necklaces. It hasn't become a problem yet.
