I like my shea butter like I like my men: unrefined. But seriously, as far as I’m concerned, unrefined is where it’s at when it comes to oils/butters. Today’s review is of Alaffia’s Handcrafted, Unrefined Shea Butter.
Ingredients (provided at alaffia.com)- “Handcrafted Shea (Butyrospermum parkii) Butter.”
Shea butter receives a nonexistent hazard score of 0 in the Cosmetics Database.
1. It’s free of parabens, phenoxyethanol, and sulfates.
2. It’s vegan and cruelty-free.
3. It’s gluten-free.
4. As with all of Alaffia’s products, this one is fair trade certified.
Product Description(provided at alaffia.com)- ”Shea butter has been a staple of African skin care for millennia. Receive the full moisturizing and protective benefits of its unique fatty acid profile and Vitamins A and E with our traditionally handcrafted, unrefined shea butter. Unscented for sensitive skin. For all skin types.”
Price- $8.95 for a 2 oz. jar.
Performance- If your cuticles are as neglected as mine, then you’ll love this stuff. It healed the worst of mine in only a few days. It also provides instant hydration and relief for extra dry/rough areas like feet, knees, and elbows. However, since it’s pretty rich, I would avoid using it all over. That could easily result in a greasy mess. Bonus: concentrating on the areas that need it most will ensure that this product lasts a good while.
Scent-Well, it smells like shea butter, which has an earthy nuttiness that I find pleasant.
Rating- 10/10. What else?
Would I purchase this item again? Yes ma’am!
