Primavera

I’ve been hearing about some great companies from other natural beauty bloggers lately, and Primavera is among these lovely few. They recently sent me a few products from their moisturizing line of face care to try, and I ended up loving every last one of them! Today I’ll be reviewing one of the products they sent, which is the Neroli Cassis Moisturizing Lip Balm. You can expect reviews of the remaining two products on Thursday and Friday. : )

Ingredients (provided at primaveralife.com)- “Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil* org, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)* org, Cera Alba* org, Jojoba Esters, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Hull Powder, Tocopherol, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax* org, Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil* org, Fragrance (Parfum), Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Oil* org”

The preliminary report that I created for this product in the Cosmetics Database gives it a low hazard score of 2. The only individual ingredient with a hazard score above 2 is unspecified oils (which I put in place of fragrance since “PRIMAVERA products rely on the highest quality pure, natural essential oils.”)

They’re also sure to mention in their FAQ section the following: “We are a German company and subject to European regulations, which require that we list our essential oils as ‘Fragrance/Parfum.’ Absolutely no synthetic fragrances or perfumes are used to scent any of our products.” Good to know!

Some great things about this product:

1. It’s free of parabens, synthetic fragrances/perfumes, phenoxyethanol, and petrochemicals.

2. It’s cruelty-free.

3. It contains organic ingredients.

4. The carton that the Lip Balm came in is printed on paper made from recycled sources using chemical-free printing plates and Ec0-Color dyes (what a mouthful)!

5. Ingredients are sourced from fair trade growers.

Product Description(provided at primaveralife.com)- “This thick, soothing balm seals in natural moisture to condition and protect lips.

BENEFITS

  • Organic Neroli Essential Oil soothes dry, flaky skin while calming and balancing the senses.
  • Organic Cassis Seed Oil seals in natural moisture using essential fatty acids, smoothing, softening and strengthening skin.
  • Organic Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil help protect against moisture loss.”

Price- $14 for a .3 fl oz tube.

Performance- When I first applied this product, I noticed that it has a slightly salty taste. It’s unusual, but I like it. Also noteworthy are the tiny beads that dissolve on contact. They add a moisturizing touch that I find to be pretty dreamy. This balm has a nice, shiny finish that is great underneath color or by itself for a natural look. I’ve also been applying this stuff before bed because waking up to the softest lips imaginable is never a bad thing. And guess what? My cuticles love this balm too!

Scent- On the citrus side of fruity, and it’s a little reminiscent of fruity pebbles.

Rating- I’m subtracting half a point for the price since it’s more than I’m accustomed to paying for a lip balm, but 9.5 outta 10 is as low as I’m willing to go.

Would I purchase this item again? Honestly, guys, I would almost never pay $14 for a lip balm…but this stuff is kind of amazing. So yeah, I would.

*Product was provided by Primavera. Opinions are all mine. Count on it!

    US$ 14 for a lip balm? No way…maybe in a nice lipstick.

To each her own, I guess. :)

Crazy price.  Check out Buddha Balm for less than $4 and you will have the best lip balm on the market.  These guys are serious players and will give Burts Bees (owned by Clorox) a run for their money.

Thanks for sharing, Lisa. Isn’t it a shame how many natural brands are being bought out by the big guys?
