When the kind folks at 100% pure agreed to send me various cosmetics to review, I was probably most excited about trying the Fruit Pigmented Mascara in blackberry. It couldn’t have come sooner, either, since I had just run out of my current mascara and was looking for something with safer ingredients. Score one for my makeup bag!
Ingredients (provided at 100percentpure.com)- “Organic Green Tea, Vitamin E (a-tocopherol), Honey Beeswax, Contains All or some of the following Pigments: Blackberry, Blueberry, Black Tea, Grape Skin, Pomegranate, Acai Berry, Boysenberry, Blackcurrant and Raspberry, Oat Protein, Wheat Protein, Provitamin B5, Seaweed Powder, Coconut Stearic acid, Mica (for shimmer in the Blackberry and Blueberry), Cocoa Butter, Pearl Powder, Rice Powder, Cacao Powder and Powdered Coffee Beans, Lavender Honey, Extracts of Oregano, Thyme, Rosemary, Lavender and Golden Seal.”
This product receives a hazard score of 2 in the Cosmetics Database. The only ingredient with a hazard score above a 3 is tocopheryl acetate (4), but I think the actual ingredient is tocopherol (which has a hazard score of 2). Don’t quote me on that because I could be wrong, but the ingredient listed on the 100% pure website is Vitamin E (a-tocopherol), and alpha tocopherol is a synonym for tocopherol, not tocopheryl acetate. What I’m trying to say is that I think the actual hazard score of this product might be lower and that it might actually have zero ingredients with a hazard score above a 2. Again, I could be wrong. Feel free to correct me; I value being informed.
Some great things about this product:
1. It contains organic ingredients.
2.It’s free of parabens, petrochemicals, retinyl palmitate, phthalates, artificial fragrance, artificial colors & chemical preservatives.
3. It’s cruelty-free (and the only animal product 100% pure uses is cruelty-free honey).

Lash conditioning ProVitamin B5, Vitamin E, Oat and Wheat protein conditions for healthier lashes. Gentle, all natural, good for you formula is suitable for everyone, even if you wear contacts or have sensitive eyes. Water and smudge resistant.”
Performance– Here’s a trend I’ve noticed with natural mascaras: the better the ingredients, the less voluminous (and awesome) my lashes tend to look after application. Fortunately, that is far from the case with this stuff. My lashes are long, dark, and just the right amount of thick after a few coats of this dreamy product. The best part? It isn’t prone to smudging, so I don’t have to worry about raccoon eyes/checking a mirror every ten minutes. The plum shade, which passes for plain ol’ black until closer inspection, is subtly shimmery and surprisingly flattering.
Here’s the mascara in action:
Scent– It smells like berries! I promise.
Rating– 9/10. I subtracted a point for the 1 possible questionable ingredient.
Would I purchase this item again? You bet! Maybe I’ll buy a smaller tube of dark chocolate too? Brown mascara is something I need more of in my life.
