Guest Review: Bare Minerals Original SPF 15 Foundation

bare minerals foundation

Hi everyone.  My name is Jacqui, a friend of Dawn and Selena.  I asked Dawn if I could do this review of Bare Minerals because I am just so impressed with their company right now.  And I love cosmetics–hair stuff, make-up stuff, skin stuff, you name it.  I’ve loved them for as long as I can remember.  I even started cosmetology school this summer so I could be legit.  I’ve also tried close to everything, but when Dawn started this blog, I really started paying attention to the stuff I was putting on my skin, especially near my eyes, face, and mouth. I even started making my own deoderant via her sister’s recipe.  I stopped using anything from Wal-Mart because everything I looked at had parabens or mineral oil, and it was exhausting.  During prom season, I was doing hair and make-up, and one of my clients used bare minerals.  I was amazed at the coverage on her skin.  I had always wanted to try the stuff, but never had the chance.  I had also heard that it was too dry, and I hate that feeling on my face.  Well, let me tell you, I am SO glad I walked by their little boutique in the mall.  I started out needing mascara (which I will be reviewing later), and I didn’t want harsh chemicals near my eyes anymore.  But I realized I was out of foundation while I was in there.  Why not let someone do my make-up, right?

Performance– Excellent.  This stuff stays put for hours, and the coverage is however you want it to be.  Want to even out your skin tone just a little but also have SPF?  Want full coverage for a night on the town? THIS is for you!  I actually tried sleeping in it one night, and I didn’t have a break out after.  Also, it was not drying like I heard it would be.  It just feels…good.  (Of course, I did start using their moisturizer when I ran out of mine, and I never ever feel dry or overly oily…but that’s another review for another time).

Scent-I don’t really think it has one.  I suppose it has a slightly pleasant smell, but it is really not noticeable.

Rating– 9.75 out of 10!  I would normally take a point off for the expensive price, but I’ve been using this stuff for over a month now, and I haven’t even made a dent in it!  And I go for full coverage most of time, let me tell you.  Also, if you are price conscious like me, know that when you go to their boutique, you can sign up for emails (I’m sure you can do this online, too).  They send discounts for online or in-store purchase all the time.  I also bought the “start-up kit” which included foundation, their version of blush called “warmth,” mineral veil, 3 brushes, and brush shampoo for $60.  The value was incredible.  I did take a 1/4 point off, though, because I don’t like it for under eye concealer.

Would I purchase this item again? Absolutely.  I cannot tell you how much better my skin has been, and I never have to apply foundation with my fingers again.  And this stuff is great for the summer!  I usually have to go stand in front of a fan for a few minutes so I don’t sweat the liquid foundation off…especially in the south!
