I recently ordered a Kombucha Starter Kit from Vegan Cuts, and it finally arrived a few days ago! All I need now is a big ol' glass jug and some fancy sugar, and I'll be good to go. Any tips or tricks from kombucha experts out there? I've only ever had store bought, but I'm pretty excited to finally be making my own batch. I ordered the strawberry green tea instead of the jasmine, and it smells like a dream come true.

Leave it to me to come down with a killer scratchy throat/steadily runny nose right in the middle of an already hectic semester. However, I refuse to make a trip to the doctor's office unless I am truly on my last leg (and I'm not there yet). Here's how I've been coping with feeling under the weather:

1) tiny citrus fruit

2) pot after pot of garlic & ginger tea

I woke up a few mornings ago craving tomato soup, and luckily we had all the ingredients needed to make it happen!

What I used:

2 medium carrots

1 large clove of garlic

1 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes

1 cup of not-chick'n broth

basil, oregano, salt, and pepper to taste

a small handful of shredded Parmesan cheese for topping (optional)

What I did:

First, I peeled the carrots and sauteed them in butter on low heat until...

I'm happy to say that my most recent adventure in the kitchen was a success. What you see above is a bagel covered in homemade crunchy almond butter.

It tasted like heaven in my mouth.

To make your own, simply combine the following in a food processor and blend it until it looks like something you'd like to eat:

-1 cup raw unsalted almonds

-2 teaspoons honey

-1 1/2 tablespoons coconut oil (I used organic refined, since that's what I...

Alton Brown's granola bars are seriously too good, y'all. I made my second batch in three weeks this past Wednesday, and I don't expect those bad boys to very long at all. After experimenting a little with the recipe,  I think I've perfected it by replacing half of the almonds with unsalted peanuts and halving the amount of brown sugar.

Feelin' snacky? Maybe you should give them a try as well. : )

This weekend is going to be so fun-filled! I can...

A few nights ago, and for no good reason, my skin was looking a little splotchy and a lot dull. I wanted to make a mask that I hadn't tried before, and I recalled reading a few articles about basil's ability to combat blemishes. I knew that I also needed a , so I got out the old fashioned oatmeal as well. I threw together the following mask, and I was pretty happy with the soft, glowing skin that resulted:

1...

Foody Friday: THE Best Hummus

I'm usually inept when it comes to deviating from recipes, but I did exactly that with this greek yogurt and artichoke dip recipe...and what resulted was the creamiest, tastiest hummus I've ever tried. Here's the recipe: 1 can of chickpeas, drained (I know, BPA is bad news. I didn't have the patience to soak them, though, and dealing with me when I'm hungry is also bad news). three heaping tablespoons of greek yogurt (for what it's worth, it was ). 3 artichoke hearts (also canned...I'm an awful person). 3 medium...

We can't all have awesome skin all the time. There are at least a few days out of each month when my skin takes to misbehaving. Over the years, I've developed a pretty effective regimen for whipping my skin back into shape that just might work as well for you as it has for me. I've compiled a list of dos and don'ts to share; feel free to bookmark it and bring it out the next time you're stuck with a pesky blemish or three! Do: Moisturize just as frequently and cleanse just as sparingly as you would otherwise (paraben-free moisturizers and...
