Since I use unscented detergent, I sometimes feel that my clothes need a hint of fresh scent to remind me that they’re clean. I recently bought some Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Geranium Dryer Sheets, and here’s what I thought.
Ingredients– (provided at mrsmeyers.com)- “Di-(Palm Carboxyethyl) Hydroxyethyl Methlammonium Methyl Sulfate, Palm Fatty Acid, Fragrance, Geranium Maculatum (Geranium) Oil, Rosa Centifolia (Rose) Flower Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Oil ”
This product, along with the first ingredient, couldn’t be found on the , but Mrs. Meyers products that do appear on the site range from a hazard score of 3 to 6. That’s pretty unnerving, and so is the presence of fragrance in the list of ingredients. Still, I’d probably rather use these than something like bounce. It’s always shocking to me how difficult it is to find dryer sheets with consistently good ingredients. Maybe I’ll start making my own.
Product Description (also provided at mrsmeyers.com)- “Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Geranium Dryer Sheets reduce static, soften and add a bit of garden-freshness. Our dryer sheets contain a vegetable-derived softening agent and natural essential oils on a new biodegradable paper sheet.”
Price– $7.99 for eighty sheets, but I spent around $4.50 on them at the health food store in Lake Charles that just went out of business.
Performance– My clothes definitely come out of the dryer smelling fresh and florally (is that a word?) after using one of these bad boys. The smell fades pretty quickly, but I’m actually a fan of that. Walking around smelling like dryer sheets sounds pretty unappealing to me. I also like that the sheets are biodegradable. My only complaint is that the scent doesn’t last longer in my sheets, which is the one bit of laundry that should always smell like a dryer sheet (in my opinion). I can’t really say much about whether or not they reduce static, since I don’t usually have a problem with that anyway.
Scent– Since scent is so closely tied to performance in dryer sheets, I guess I covered this in the category above.
Rating– I’m gonna go with 6 out of 10. I like the fresh (yet fleeting) scent and the environmentally friendly aspects of the product, but the questionable ingredients knock the score down to a 6.
