Since school is back in session, and I'm getting up early on a fairly regular basis (blergh), I've been trying to make a habit of healthy breakfasts. Here are a couple of my creations: To make the tasty berry oatmeal smoothie above, I just combined a cup of oatmeal, a cup of berry blast Naked juice smoothie, and a handful of goji berries. I used two large handfuls of spinach, a medium avocado, and a splash of organic sparkling apple...

Kirby made a whole mess of chipotle chocolate soup while we were visiting our friends in Houma recently. It was spicy and rich and delicious. I ate an obscene amount. Danielle mentioned wanting to try an oatmeal strawberry smoothie she'd seen online, and I couldn't get the idea out of my head...so I made my own. I just used a handful of strawberries, a handful of spinach, a frozen banana, and about 1/2 a cup of oatmeal.  It was...

Danielle introduced me to an easy and tasty green smoothie a couple of months ago, and I've been hooked ever since. If you're interested in making your own, then just blend the following: 1 frozen banana 1 green apple 2 large handfuls of spinach 1/2 a cup of water or prune juice This little guy makes for a delicious on-the-go breakfast or post workout treat. And I'm not sure how to say this without being either gross or too scientific, but this smoothie is also great at facilitating bowel regularity. I've considered adding chilled...

In case you're interested, here's the Mushroom Ragu recipe we used. We substituted the chicken broth with Not Chick'n Cubes, and we managed to find organic heavy cream.   Danielle, Kirby, Kyle, and I finally weeded the garden. It needed it. I cannot wait to try one of the first tomatoes... if they ever decide to show up. Interested in a few foody articles? Here ya go: 7 Edible Weeds- Dandelion wine? Oh my word! Likely inspired by the tasty Sweets & Beets Chips I bought a couple of weeks ago, Danielle made a few homemade batches of her own one night this week. They were absolutely delicious, and I actually felt good about eating them since they were baked instead of fried. I've been trying to eat more salads lately, and the above creation might be the best homemade salad I've had yet! Baby spinach, artichokes, avocado,...

I should make smoothies more often.

Link to I should make smoothies more often.

I made a delicious smoothie recently, and the ingredients were as follows: 2 heaping cups of frozen mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries) 1 large banana, sliced 2 tablespoons of unsweetened almond milk 1/2 cup of freshly-brewed green tea 2 handfuls of organic spinach 1 serving of liquid vitamins (I was making enough for Kirby as well, but I was afraid that putting two servings of vitamins might make it taste like a flinstone vitamin). If you've ever added spinach to a smoothie, then you know that it doesn't alter the taste at all....

Link to Foods with anti-aging properties? Yes, please.

photo credit: » Zitona « I just read an article about foods that may slow the aging process, and I found it to be both interesting and helpful.  I tend to become so focused on health and beauty products that I forget how big a role the food we eat actually plays in our overall quality of life. I plan to buy kiwis, dark chocolate, and white tea tomorrow  when I go grocery...
