Dr. Bronner sets the bar pretty high when it comes to castile soaps, but I was surprisingly impressed with free sample of Kiss My Face's Castile Peace Soap in Grassy Mint. Ingredients (provided at peacesoap.kissmyface.com)- “Water, Coconut Oil, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Hemp Oil,Xanthan Gum, Spearmint Oil, Natural Fragrance Blend." I couldn't locate this product on the Cosmetic Safety Database. The ingredients look pretty legit, though, other than the "fragrance blend". I'm assuming that means the same thing as fragrance. All of the other ingredients are either a zero or a one. Product Description (also provided at peacesoap.kissmyface.com)- “Enjoy the mild,...

I don't typically review products together, but I am making an exception for Organix Cucumber Yogurt Shampoo and Conditioner. I used them together, and I don't think that I would've been nearly as happy with the results if I hadn't. They were also sent to me together, given to me so that I might try and then review them. So, here ya go: Ingredients (provided at enviroproductsworld.com)- Shampoo: "Aqua, Disodium Laureth...

Link to A Few Interesting Articles

I'm in an article-readin' kind of mood; here are a few of the most interesting ones that I've come across today: Chemicals to Avoid + Alternatives- This Eco Stiletto article talks you through a few of the harshest ingredients and why they should be avoided. It also recommends  a few brands that are known to have safe ingredients. I appreciate articles that go a step further than telling me what I'm doing wrong. The Safety of Personal Care Products- Here's a scary article from Care2 about the insane amount of chemicals that are found in personal care products....

Link to Mrs. Meyers Geranium Dryer Sheet Review

Since I use unscented detergent, I sometimes feel that my clothes need a hint of fresh scent to remind me that they're clean. I recently bought some Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Geranium Dryer Sheets, and here's what I thought. Ingredients- (provided at mrsmeyers.com)- “Di-(Palm Carboxyethyl) Hydroxyethyl Methlammonium Methyl Sulfate, Palm Fatty Acid, Fragrance, Geranium Maculatum (Geranium) Oil, Rosa Centifolia (Rose) Flower Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Oil ” This product, along with the first ingredient, couldn't be found on the Cosmetic Safety Database, but Mrs. Meyers products that do appear on the site range from a hazard...

Link to Dr. Bronner’s has changed my feelings toward public restrooms.

I've recently started carrying a travel-size bottle filled with Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Pure-Castile Soap in my purse. I am no longer faced with either having to wash my hands with anti-bacterial sludge (that contains any number of questionable ingredients) or not washing my hands at all. I should've done this months ago; I feel good about life. Annnnd: After I find a job and am making money down here in Lake Charles, I'm going to buy all of the containers and necessary ingredients to create and sell my own line...

Linalool, friend or foe?

Link to Linalool, friend or foe?

photo credit: miltedflower I mentioned linalool in my recent post about perfume, but I didn't really expound upon why it should be avoided because I hadn't done much research at that point (aside from the articles that I linked to in the post).  My curiosity was stirred once again while reading the ingredients to Danielle's seemingly harmless body oil.  Upon seeing the ingredient "linalool" listed, I immediately did some research. Linalool earns a hazard...

Link to Let’s talk about perfume.

photo credit: tanakawho Until a few days ago, perfume had always been a guilty pleasure of mine.  I successfully traded in most of my old health and beauty products for safer (and consequently, more expensive) alternatives...but perfume was kind of a hard habit to break. I'd spray just a little on top of my clothes instead of directly on my...

My beach vacation has been pretty fly thus far.  I haven't spent much time at the beach (because of the nasty water...oil spills are for the birds), but our Condo is sufficiently sweet. There's a lazy river; how cool is that?! I've been avoiding shampoo altogether this week and using baking soda in its place. I've been conditioning with Aveda Rosemary Mint Conditioner (and my hair has never looked better): My mom bought me some Time & Again Organics hand cream today at a cute little shop.  It was seven dollars, and it smells like a dream:
