Cover Girl's NatureLuxe Collection came out last year in the spring, but I only recently became aware of its existence since I tend to avoid this brand like the plague. I happened to see a display on a recent trip to the store with my grandmother, and I immediately made a mental note to do some research. The green packaging (I'm speaking only in reference to the color and not Cover Girl's environmental awareness or impact) was a clever move on their part, since most of us associate green with all things natural....

Link to Nearly Natural: Ross Revisited

The following products were found at Ross, a store whose personal care section is becoming more and more of a disappointment with each trip.

This product might be sulfate free, but it's also full of petrochemical derivatives like propylene glycol and PEG-40 almond glycerides, as well as the ever-elusive fragrance.

Don't be fooled by fancy words like "green tea" and "dead sea." Sulfates and parabens...

Link to Lavera Volume Mascara in Black Review

Yesterday I reviewed my current party time mascara, and today I'll be reviewing my current everyday mascara, which is Lavera Volume Mascara in Black. Ingredients (provided at lavera.com)- "Water, Grain Alcohol*, Sorbitol, Castor Oil*, Grain Alcohol, Jojoba Oil*, Tricaprylin, Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, Hectorite, Lysolecithin, Rosa Damascena Flower Water*, Xanthan Gum, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Iron Oxides, Ultramarines (Cl 77007) * indicates ingredients from Certified Organic agriculture" I couldn't find this product in the Cosmetic Safety Database, so I searched the ingredients individually. I've linked to the only ingredient that has a hazard score higher than...

Link to Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Review

I bought the above mascara with some of my Christmas money from my mom, and it's long overdue for a review. Don't be fooled by the hideous faux animal skin casing; this mascara is all kinds of fly. Ingredients (provided at sephora.com)- “Aqua, Alcohol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Wax, Cyclopentasiloxane, Hydrogenated Stearyl Olive Esters, Stearic Acid, Cera Carnauba, Triethanolamine, Candelilla Cera, Acacia Senegal Gum, Panthenol, VP/VA Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Aminomethylpropanediol, Chlorphenesin, Iron Oxides (CI 77499).” I found this product in the Cosmetic Safety Database, and it...

Link to Safe and Natural Feminine Wash: Does it exist?

A friend of mine recently came to me with a great idea for a post, so I did some research on on the topic and put something together that is hopefully both informative and helpful. She began with mentioning how she stopped using baby oil after her showers upon discovering that it was unsafe on the Cosmetic Safety Database (with it being a petroleum byproduct and all).  While browsing the CSD, she also discovered that the Summer's Eve Feminine Wash for Sensitive Skin that her friend had been using had all kinds of awful ingredients that you...

Baby Fever (but not really).

Link to Baby Fever (but not really).

My friends Jillian and Todd just visited for a few days, and their stay made me curious about natural baby products and their ingredients (since Jillian's pregnant). I'm sure Danielle and I will be putting together a lovely gift basket for Jillian, and I'd like to familiarize myself with a few brands that have the best ingredients. For this reason, I've made a list of some of the safest and most appealing baby products. Check it out! 1) Lusa Organics Calendula Baby Soap- I can pronounce each of the ingredients in this soap, and I can count them on...

Link to Pacifica Solid Perfumes: I’m For Them.

Danielle gave me two Pacifica Solid Perfumes around a year ago (Sandalwood and Mexican Cocoa), and I immediately fell in love with the Sandalwood-scented one. I used it for a couple of months until it started making my head hurt (which tends to happen to me with any scent when I expose myself to it for long enough).  I decided to give the other one a try, even though it didn't really smell like my cup of tea while it was in the tin.  Surprisingly, after I applied it behind my ears and on my neck,...

Link to a truly hairy situation

Allow me to preface this entry by saying I firmly believe that all the things we put on our bodies have just as much of an impact on our health and well-being as the things we put in our bodies. For the past two years or so, I had been passionately searching for a shampoo and condioner that satisfied, met, and maybe even exceeded all my expectations.  I was actually not asking for much. I just needed something free of parabens(a type of preservative) and sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates(a cleaning agent) that would also make my hair look fabulous. I learned very...
