My second product to try on my quest for a natural laundry detergent was Soap Nuts. Now, I'm not saying my search is over, but I will say that I am thoroughly impressed. Some great things about this product: 1. It’s free of synthetic chemicals, fragrance, and foaming agents. 2. They're better for the environment than conventional detergent. Product Description(provided at buysoapnuts.com)- “In India, Nepal, and other South Asian countries, a tree called sapindus mukorrosi grows small fruits surrounded by a firm outer shell. This tree is unique because it...

As my product reviews have become more in depth, I've grown accustomed to reviewing a single product at a time. I find it's easier to be thorough this way. However, after trying my two new Made From Earth Lip Balms, I decided to review them together. They're so similar in performance, ingredients and price that it just made sense. Ingredients (provided at madefromearth.com)- Citrus Fresh Lip Balm- "Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Beeswax, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Essential Oils of Orange, Lemon...

With Valentine's Day coming up, I'm sure we'll all be eating our share of sweet treats.  I love a Reese's Heart just as much as the next girl, but I also realize that milk chocolate might not be the healthiest or the smartest choice to make. If you're like me and are disgusted by the ingredients listed on the bag of those cute little candy hearts (modified food starch?!!), then you should check out this Care2 article about Healthier Valentine's Candy & Chocolate. It has links...

Remember the homemade bath soak that I posted about a little over a week ago? Well.. I was checking out Eco Stiletto's shop and I came across some bath salts and milk baths that reminded me a lot of those. Apparently, Rianna Loving knows what's up. She's selling these adorable concoctions for $28.00 a bottle and undoubtedly making a killing. I say more power to her! Something unrelated: I firmly believe that every woman needs a good sleep bra. I know Christmas just happened, but I almost squealed when I saw this adorable

I've already mentioned to you guys a couple of things that are on my Christmas list- Soap-Making Supplies and Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry.  Here are a few other awesome finds that made my list: 1) Debutante Face Scrubbies- I'm the kind of person who buys gifts for friends that I secretly want for myself. I bought my good friend, Selena, a set of these for her birthday not long ago. Ever since then, I've been longing for them. They're very reasonably-priced, and they come in a...

Link to Tea Tree Oil as a Deodorant: An Update

Remember that post I made about using tea tree oil as a deodorant? Well, it was great for the first few days, but a couple of problems eventually arose. The skin under my arms became very irritated, itchy, and almost raw (talk about a disgusting word!). I thought maybe it was happening because I should have been diluting it, but I added water and shook the bottle before each use but kept getting the same results. Needless to say, I had to switch back to homemade deodorant for now. I'm not complaining; It's never failed me...

I'm not sure if I've discussed this with you guys before, but I am not one of those people who dreads bathing their dogs. I even enjoy it. I enjoy it so much, in fact, that I decided to post about it. My dogs are so cute that you have to be at least a little interested, right? I wish that I could've gotten some pictures of me brushing their teeth; it's quite the experience (which is probably why I have no...

I drink tap water; I don’t need fluoride in my toothpase.

Link to I drink tap water; I don’t need fluoride in my toothpase.

After trying several different kinds of Tom's of Maine toothpastes, I've come to realize that they are all flawed in some way or another.  Most of them have Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (and not to mention fluoride: don't even get me started on fluoride), and the ones that are SLS and fluoride free still don't freshen my breath.  I'm a frequent flosser, a mouth-washer, and a tongue brusher...so I'm pretty sure that it's no fault of my own. After giving up on Tom's of Maine, I decided to try Burt's Bees Fluoride-Free Whitening Toothpaste. Since Burt's Bees steers clear of SLS, I...

Five Things to Consider When Buying Health and Beauty Products

Link to Five Things to Consider When Buying Health and Beauty Products

Sometimes choosing health and beauty products is tough. Here are some tips that I try to keep in mind when shopping for them. 1) Always read the ingredients. Check out the ingredients that you're curious about on the Cosmetic Safety Database, and see what they have to say about it. I link this website often because I use it so often. Also, it's legit. Research it for yourself if you see it necessary. After using the site for a while, you'll start to recognize the names of certain chemicals that are potentially harmful. This may or may not make you...
