I'm in an article-readin' kind of mood; here are a few of the most interesting ones that I've come across today: Chemicals to Avoid + Alternatives- This Eco Stiletto article talks you through a few of the harshest ingredients and why they should be avoided. It also recommends  a few brands that are known to have safe ingredients. I appreciate articles that go a step further than telling me what I'm doing wrong. The Safety of Personal Care Products- Here's a scary article from Care2 about the insane amount of chemicals that are found in personal care products....

Aside from shampoo, conditioner, and the occasional leave-in moisturizing treatment, I don't put many products in my hair. After smelling John Masters Bourbon Vanilla & Tangerine Hair Texturizer, though, I knew that I had to at least try it. I had pretty high expectations after using and loving John Masters Organics shampoo and conditioner. Ingredients (provided at johnmasters.com)-"Ricinus communis (castor seed) oil, glycerin, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter,* sorbitol, panthenol, vanilla planifolia (bourbon vanilla) fruit oil,* citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) flower oil,* citrus reticulata (tangerine) peel oil,* citrus grandis (grapefruit) peel oil,* tocopherol (vitamin E), ascorbyl palmitate (vitamin...

Avocado, Honey, and Oatmeal Face Mask

A few nights ago, Danielle and I made a mask for our faces out of avocado, honey, and Dr. Teal's Oatmeal Bath Soaking Solution (which is much less messy/slimy than regular ol' oatmeal, by the way). It was an altogether pleasant experience. The mask was supposed to promote even skin tone, and I didn't see much of a result as far as that goes...but it made my skin soft like a baby's! We had enough mix left for two or three more masks, but I threw it out since avocado doesn't keep well. What a shame, right? I'll definitely be...

Does anyone else compulsively put on chap stick/ lip balm, whether or not their lips are actually chapped? I guess there are worse habits to have. Here's a review for some lip balm that I've been using and loving for a few months now: Ingredients (provided at burtsbees.com)- "helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, beeswax, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, lanolin, flavor, punica granatum (pomegranate) seed oil, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil, carmine." This lip balm earns a hazard score of three on the Cosmetic Safety Database. Flavor and Lanolin are...

I don't expect the body oils that I use to work miracles. I've said it once and I'll say it again: I don't expect the few lingering stretch marks that I have left over from puberty to ever fade completely. I simply use these oils to make the more delicate areas of my skin (breasts, thighs, hips) soft after showering. I typically like for these oils to be scented, because it makes me feel pretty and I don't feel that I need a better reason than that. I just finished a bottle of Origin Soothing Vitamin E Oil from Target,...

Oral hygiene is no laughing matter, and that's why I'm always hunting for the perfect toothpaste. In the past few years, I've tried, loved, and hated several different brands. Everyone probably already knows about my love affair with Tea Tree Oil; it's one if the beauty products that I almost always have in my cabinet. Lately, though, I've had wandering eyes. I ordered some adorable and on sale shoes for myself today, and I can't wait to wear them! A piece of news that is more relevant to this blog, however, is that I also ordered some health and beauty product samples by brands that I rarely or never review. The brands are Lily Organics, evanhealy, The Answer For Skin, and Skin; the products will be tested and reviewed shortly after they arrive....
