Let’s talk about bacon.

When people ask me why I don't eat meat, I usually freeze.  I'm always worried that I'll say something that will come off as offensive or ignorant or maybe even both.  I usually begin by saying, "I'm not a very good vegetarian."  I've been eating a mostly vegetarian diet for only a couple of years now, but I will eat meat if someone I don't know very well cooks me a meal.  I consider it common courtesy. I usually follow my shameful consumption of meat with lots of fiber rich foods, but at least I didn't seem like an asshole...

I will consistently fail to understand why and how people get such an exaggerated idea of their importance in the world. Aside from your(this being the proverbial your, of course) family and very close friends, and that's if you're lucky, the general public does not give a single shit about you. I had this realization very early in life, and clearly I should count myself lucky. Not many people were as fortunate as I, and it's a little disturbing, to say the least.  My day to day life is almost entirely composed of interactions with people who have fooled themselves...
