Danielle is smart.

Danielle has been urging me to replace my shampoo with baking soda for at least a year now, and I finally tried it out in the shower this morning. Actually, it was this afternoon. I slept in, and I feel pretty good about it. I feel pretty good about my hair too. I put a quarter-sized wad(I wish I could think of a less disgusting word to use) in my palm, mixed it with a little water, massaged it into my scalp for about thirty seconds, rinsed it out, and conditioned my hair as usual.  It looks clean, but...

It’s like Raisin Bran Crunch, only better for you.

Nature's Path Flax Plus Pumpkin Raisin Crunch

I love Raisin Bran Crunch, but I do not love high fructose corn syrup (and I don't even know what the hell modified corn starch is).  I recently finished a box of Flax Plus Pumpkin Raisin Crunch, and it's comparable in taste but has much better ingredients.  The ingredients are organic organic organic, and who doesn't love flax?! It keeps you regular, man.  I suggest trying it with rice milk.  It's a...

Desert Essence tea tree oil mouthwash

I rarely make a long-term commitment to any health and beauty product, but those listed below have a special place in my heart and in my beauty regimen. 1. Desert Essence tea tree oil mouthwash- Let's get real, natural toothpastes don't actually do much for bad breath.  Flossing and brushing are great for making my teeth look clean, but mouthwash is where it's at if I want to talk close to someone's face (and I do).  I love the way this stuff tastes, and it makes my breath downright pleasant. 2. Spring Valley tea tree oil (that walmart jurnt)- Can you tell...

My bad, Karen (a re-review).

I would like to apologize for jumping the gun and telling the internet that Karen's Botanicals Calendula Rose Facial Cream smells like ham. After being assured that I must have received an expired or defective sample, I gave it another try.  To my surprise, the cream smelled nothing like ham the second time around.  Apparently I did initially receive a bad sample. re-review: Scent- While the scent is not something that I consider entirely pleasant, it certainly is not unpleasant.  It certainly would not prevent me from purchasing the product, especially since the smells fades within a few minutes of applying the...

Boar Bristle Hair Brush Review

I cannot say enough positive things about the boar bristle hair brush that I recently purchased. It makes my hair shiny, soft, and waaay more manageable. Honestly, I did not expect to see much of an improvement in my hair, but I was pleasantly surprised.  Every review that I read before purchasing one said that it evenly redistributes the oils in your hair (from the scalp to the ends, where it's needed to prevent and repair split ends), but I was still skeptical until I tried it.   It has  actually improved the overall texture of my hair. Also, it was...

straight up coconut oil

It's winter weather every few days around here and, needless to say, my skin gets pretty dry.  Kirby started using the coconut oil that I used to make deodorant and toothpaste (reviews to come) with, and he mentioned it improving the condition of his hair.  Following my next shower, I covered my body (with the exception of my face, neck, and chest) with it.  Here's what I think: Performance- It makes my skin feel like soft, smooth heaven, and my (perpetually ashy) legs still feel moisturized at the end of the day. Ingredients- It's straight up coconut oil. Price- I can't remember the...

Five Things to Consider When Buying Health and Beauty Products

February 18, 2010 by Dawn · Leave a Comment

Sometimes choosing health and beauty products is tough. Here are some tips that I try to keep in mind when shopping for them. 1) Always read the ingredients. Check out the ingredients that you're curious about on the Cosmetic Safety Database, and see what they have to say about it. I link this website often because I use it so often. Also, it's legit. Research it for yourself if you see it necessary. After using the site for a while, you'll start to recognize the names of certain chemicals that are potentially harmful. This may or may not make you...

Karen’s Botanicals Calendula Rose Facial Cream Review

Scent- Usually, scent is not the most important aspect of a product for me.  When the product smells like ham, however, scent becomes a big deal. After applying this a few nights ago for the first time, I contemplated washing it off because of the smell. I decided against it, for the sake of this review. Performance- This stuff is very moisturizing, and (smell aside) it makes a wonderful night cream. When I wake up after wearing it all night, my skin feels super soft. Ingredients (as listed on the website)- Sunflower, Olive oil infused with Rosebud and Calendula blossom, Calendula extract,...
