I have a shameful confession to make: Until very recently, we were still using conventional detergent to wash our clothes, towels, and sheets. And when I say conventional, I do mean phthalate and sulfate-filled, bright blue, liquid garbage in a bottle. I’d been meaning to find a reasonably-priced natural alternative for quite some time, but life consistently gets the way of my trying to do right. Fortunately, I recently came across a few brands that seemed perfect for making the switch. Desert Sun Naturals is one of those brands, and today I’ll be sharing my review of their all natural laundry detergent.
Ingredients (provided by Jean from Desert Sun Naturals)- “Desert Sun Naturals handmade soap (saponified coconut, palm, and olive oils), sodium borate, sodium carbonate, and essential oils.”

Price- $6 for a bag that does up to 40 loads—I’m impressed.
Performance- Ohh, you guys! I’m so pleased with this detergent. After successfully washing a heavy load with a tablespoon of this product and two tablespoons of vinegar, I promptly washed our sheets and all my bras/panties (even though most of them were clean). I love knowing that the fabrics touching my body weren’t washed in chemical sludge; it’s a pretty great feeling. This detergent leaves my clothes feeling and smelling clean, and not artificially so.
Scent- It smells clean and lovely, and so do my clothes after being washed with it. Contrary to the conventional detergent we were previously using, this product does not give me a headache when I wear or use items that have been washed in it. Two thumbs way up for that fact.
Rating- What to give an inexpensive detergent with clean ingredients and excellent performance? That’s a big ol’ 10/10.
Would I purchase this item again? Yes!
