Virgin Coconut Oil

Danielle sent me a text on her recent trip to Ohio to inform me that she spotted 16 oz. jars of organic virgin coconut oil at Trader Joe’s for only $5.99 each. Like any sane person would, I immediately responded with a request that she pick me up a jar. Since she’s an angel and pretty much the best sister ever, she came back to Lake Charles with a jar of coconut oil and a bar of dark chocolate, both especially for me.

Ingredients (provided on product’s label)- “organic virgin coconut oil.”

The one and only ingredient receives a low, low hazard score of 0 in the Cosmetics Database.

1. It’s free of synthetic fragrances, parabens, sulfates, phenoxyethanol, petrochemicals, and all kinds of gross stuff.

2. It comes in a reusable glass jar.

Product Description(provided at traderjoes.com)- “To make our Organic Virgin Coconut Oil our supplier starts with freshly harvested coconuts that are de-husked and grated. Then, when the meat of the coconut is still fresh, it’s cold pressed and filtered to remove any remaining pieces of the fruit. That’s the process. Nothing more. Some coconut oil is extracted using high heat, chemicals and even bleach. Not ours. Producing the oil in this more pure, natural way, we are able to retain the nutrients, flavor characteristics and aromas of fresh coconuts.

Use Organic Virgin Coconut Oil in cooking – it stands up to relatively high heat and imparts a distinctive flavor – in salad dressings, for baking, and even as a moisturizer for dry skin. It’s true! It will fluctuate from a liquid to a solid state, depending on the temperature at which it’s stored, so don’t be surprised when you see liquid in a jar that’s been stored in a hot pantry.”

Price-  only $5.99 for a 16 oz. jar!

Performance- With refined coconut oil, and even some unrefined brands I’ve tried, I’ve noticed that my skin is left feeling greasy for hours after application. That is not at all the case with this product. I’m not sure if the temperature in our house and its tendency to leave this oil in liquid form have anything to do with my positive experience, but either way I’m impressed. My skin absorbs this coconut oil faster than any I’ve used before, and it’s left feeling super soft but not at all greasy. You know what else? This coconut oil seriously makes the tastiest fried egg in the world. I’m hooked.

Scent- It smells like coconuts, which I believe to be one of the dreamiest scents on earth.

Rating- Safe product, low price, and stellar performance? 10/10, my friends!

Would I purchase this item again? You bet! I’m already planning a trip to the Trader Joe’s in Houston, TX. I need to stock up on this liquid gold, and soon.
