I’ve mentioned Benefit’s Badgal Waterproof liner in one or two posts before, but I’ve yet to actually review it. After losing almost an entire stick of it recently, I figured I should go ahead type up a review while my opinions regarding its marvelous performance were still fresh on my mind. Sigh.
Ingredients (provided at beauty.hsn.com)- “Cyclpentasiloxane,Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Paraffin, C11-12 Isoparaffin, Polybutene, Hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis(Jojoba) Seed Oil,Ceresin, Mica, Ozokerite, Microcrystalline Wax (Cera Microcristallina), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate.”
I couldn’t locate this product in the Cosmetics Database, so I’ve linked to each ingredient individually above. The only ingredient with a hazard score above a 3 is Hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil, but it has a high hazard score of 8 since it could potentially be contaminated with MERCURY, ARSENIC, LEAD, GOSSYPOL,PESTICIDES, and PCBS. Yikes! I can’t believe I’ve been lining my eyes with this stuff for the past several months. Maybe losing it was for the best? Additionally, there is no data on C11-12 Isoparaffin.
Some great things about this product:
1. It’s free of parabens.
Product Description(provided at benefitcosmetics.com)- “Our slimline BADgal liner waterproof eye pencils, now available in three shades, stay put rain or shine. Line upper lashline for precise definition or smudge with the blending tip for a smoky effect.”
Price-$20.00 for a 0.04 oz. stick.
Performance- This liner smudges beautifully with a little help from the blending tip (hey there, smoky eyes!), and it stays put for hours at a time. I wouldn’t say that it’s waterproof, as the label claims, but it definitely has more staying power than several other pencil liners I’ve tried. I also like how soft this liner is, since I’ve come across pencil liners in the past that are pretty difficult to apply and can actually be painful. I’m not trying to get a splinter in my eye, y’all.
Scent- very little, if any.
Rating- 7/10. I’m subtracting 2 points for the dangerous ingredient and another for the price.
Would I purchase this item again? No, I don’t think so. Exceptional performance doesn’t override dangerous ingredients. I’m not proud of how long it took me to actually research the ingredients of this product, and I might have avoided buying it in the first place had I been informed.
