Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Mascara

Jacqui’s back again today, and this time she’s reviewing Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Mascara. After hearing her thoughts, I’m pretty sure I need to own a tube of this stuff in the near future.

Ingredients (provided at bareescentuals.com)- “Water (Aqua), Beeswax (Cera Alba), Stearic Acid, Diisostearoyl Trimethylpropane Siloxy Silicate, Acrylates/Octylacrylamide Copolymer, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Silica, Butylene Glycol, Cetyl Alcohol, Triethanolamine, Ozokerite, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Rhodochrosite Extract, Malachite Extract, Smithsonite Extract, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol. May Contain: Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).”

This product receives a hazard score of 3 in the Cosmetics Database, and the only ingredients with hazard scores above a 3 are Triethanolamine (5) and Tocopheryl Acetate (4).

Some great things about this product:

1.  It’s free of parabens.

2. It’s cruelty-free.

Product Description(also provided at bareescentuals.com)- “Wink, blink, and bat your eyes. With Flawless Definition Mascara, you’ll enjoy every lash. The tapered wand lengthens, darkens and lifts, separating each individual lash for precision definition.”

Price- From $13 to $18 for 2.4 ounces.

Performance- I normally have trouble with mascaras flaking off or creating a gray under-eye “shadow” ring.  I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I must have long lashes or weird shaped eyes because every mascara eventually does this to me, new tube or no.  This mascara, however, does not do this as soon or nearly as often.  I’m keeping a close watch on it, though.  I’ve had it a month, and I haven’t had nearly as many problems as with other mascaras after this long.  I also like that it doesn’t burn or sting my eyes when I take off my make-up, and it is fairly easy to remove.  I tried the waterproof version of this, and I returned that sucker because it took off lashes with it!  And they took it back with (almost) no questions asked.  I’m telling you, I am really impressed with this company.  The New York Times had a recent article about Leslie Blodgett, the face of Bare Escentuals.  I kinda like her, too.

Scent- less than most mascaras I’ve tried.  Not bad at all.

Rating- 9 out of 10, only because it still does the under-eye shadow thing sometimes.

Would I purchase this item again? Oh yes!  It’s the safest, best mascara I’ve found, and the application wand is brilliant.  I’ve used separator wands before, but this one is tapered, and it really does catch EVERY tiny lash without all the crazy clumping.  Now if I can only find an eye shadow primer that keeps my eye make-up in place all day and doesn’t have parabens or retinyl palmitate.  Any suggestions?

I have been wanting to try Bare Minerals for a while now and ran across a store today while I was at the mall. I tried out their mascara and am impressed! My eyes usually feel really heavy with mascara but several hours latter and I can barely tell that I have anything on my eyelashes.

I definitely need to try their mascara. I’ve been hearing so many wonderful things about it!
