As I promised in my recent Intense Moisture Treatment review, here’s my review of the Jason Natural Plumeria & Sea Kelp Shampoo I’ve been using:
Ingredients (provided at healthsuperstore.com)- Aqua (purified water), disodium cocoamphodiacetate, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, di-steareth-75 ipdi, panthenol (vitamin b5), macrocystis pyriderae (sea kelp) extract, plumeria acrtifolia (plumeria) flower extract, biotin (vitamin h), algae extract, prunus ameniaca (apricot) kernel oil, citrus nobilis (mandarin orange) peel oil, citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, polysorbate 20, hydrolyzed wheat gluten, acrylates copolymer, citric acid, betaine, glycol stearate, polyquaternium-44, cetrimonium chloride, sodium pca, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, phenyl trimethicone, benzyl alcohol, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, fragrance oil blend.
This product receives a hazard score of 6 in the Cosmetics Database. The ingredients with hazard scores above a 3 are Fragrance (8), Benzyl Alcohol (6), and Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate (4).
Some great things about this product:
1. It’s free of parabens and sulfates.
2. It’s cruelty-free.
3. It’s biodegradable.
Product Description(also provided at jason-natural.com)- “Instantly hydrates and strengthens dry, damaged hair. Reduces frizz and split ends while restoring shine and manageability. For shiny, lustrous hair.”
Price- around $6.oo for 8.5 oz.
Performance- I shampooed with this product before conditioning with Jason’s Mint & Rose Intense Moisture Treatment, and my hair was impressively wavy when I got out of the shower. I’m not entirely sure if it was the shampoo, the conditioner, or a combination of the two (and my limited amount of the products makes finding this out difficult), but regardless the results were wonderful. My hair often remains in that weird stage of waviness that just looks unattractive when I don’t straighten it, so pretty waves were a welcomed change.
Scent- I know this stuff is probably supposed to smell like plumeria, but it smells a lot like freesia to me. Fortunately for me, I enjoy the scent of freesia. Even more fortunately, when this shampoo is combined with mint & rose conditioner, the resulting scent is pretty heavenly.
Rating- I’m gonna go with 7/10. I’m subtracting 1 point for each of the hazardous ingredients.
Would I purchase this item again? Based on the hazard score alone, probably not. It’s a shame, though, because the performance was fantastic.
